Smart Irrigation and IoT Upgrade a 220-Acre Tea Plantation with Precision Agriculture

As precision agriculture continues to evolve, irrigation automation and IoT-based field management are becoming essential technologies for improving crop quality and resource efficiency. Connected irrigation, environmental monitoring, and remote management are now among the fastest-growing applications in smart farming.

To support this transition, Hubei Yuntai Technology Co., Ltd. recently completed the installation and technical deployment of a smart irrigation and IoT system for a 220-acre tea plantation in southwest China. Located in a mountainous area at elevations ranging from 1,015 to 1,107 meters, the project presented challenges including uneven terrain, dispersed planting areas, and difficult water management.

The solution integrates multiple smart agriculture technologies into one management platform, including:

Intelligent pump station

Smart fertigation machine

Constant-pressure variable frequency control cabinet

IoT monitoring platform

Solar insect control lamps

Crop growth monitoring devices

The intelligent pump station and fertigation system automatically deliver water and nutrients according to irrigation requirements, while maintaining stable pipeline pressure across the plantation. Field monitoring devices continuously collect environmental and crop data, allowing managers to remotely monitor field conditions and respond more efficiently.

Compared with conventional irrigation methods, the integrated system is designed to help reduce water consumption by 30–50% and fertilizer use by 20–30%, while improving irrigation consistency and reducing manual operation. These performance targets are consistent with the growing adoption of IoT-enabled precision irrigation technologies across modern agriculture.

The project also demonstrates the advantages of combining irrigation management with pest monitoring and crop observation. Instead of operating independent systems, the plantation now benefits from a connected platform that supports irrigation scheduling, field monitoring, and daily management through a single interface.

Mountain tea plantations often face higher labor costs and greater management complexity than flat farmland. By integrating IoT devices with intelligent irrigation control, farm managers can improve operational efficiency while making more informed decisions based on real-time field data.

Hubei Yuntai Technology continues to provide integrated precision agriculture solutions for orchards, tea plantations, field crops, and commercial farms. From environmental monitoring and smart irrigation to pest monitoring and cloud-based management platforms, the company helps agricultural projects improve productivity through practical, field-proven technologies.
